Today, I had the most excellent opportunity to preview Universal Studios Florida's newest attraction, "The Simpsons Ride." After 9 months of construction, Krustyland, Krusty the Clown's theme park, is ready for business! As you enter, you make your way through Krusty's mouth and make your way through various circus tents with signs advertising various midway games. Once you get to the main queue, the queue video full of fresh new material awaits your viewing pleasure. You are most certainly guaranteed to laugh during the whole video. Also, Universal and Fox have given an homage to the attraction's predecessor, "Back to the Future: The Ride", by placing an animated Doctor Emmett Brown (played by none other than Christopher Lloyd) in the queue video.
As you make your way up to 1 of 3 levels, you will experience the preshow. I must say that I was thoroughly impressed and astonished when I walked into the room. When you walk in, you will hardly remember it used to house BTTF. There are several flat-screen monitors that will be playing the preshow video. Also, you will see some of your favorite Simpsons characters in the preshow as they are manning the most prized booths. Marge's sisters, Patty and Selma, are in charge of the "Finders Keepers Losers Weepers" booth, Apu, everyone's favorite Kwik-E-Mart salesman, mans the deep fried food stand, Groundskeeper Willie is in charge of the midway game, and The Moleman gives insightful information.
As the preshow video begins, you are greeted by Krusty the Clown who chooses the Simpsons to experience his "upsy-downsy, thrill-ridesy, teen operated thrilltacular" attraction. The clown also gives you a warning that his archenemy, Sideshow Bob, is loose and has been seen near Krustyland. Once the safety instructions have been given, you are sent into the main room where you will board your vehicle. Once inside the room, Krusty is giving The Simpsons an exclusive tour of the backbone of Krustyland. I don't want to say too much about it, but let me just say---Sideshow Bob is amazing.
Once the video is completed with the ending of the hilarious "legally required" safety video, you board the Krusty Kar. As another homage to BTTF, the doors of the vehicle are gull wings. Ironic, huh? Now, I am not going to go and ruin the whole film for you, but there are plenty of surprises, such as a knockoff of a classic Disney attraction, a parody of a famous show with a famous marine animal at Sea World, and more. It is a cantankerous, hilarious attraction that people of all ages will enjoy when the time comes.
I hope you all enjoyed this report as much as I did. Well, Krusty is calling me back to help him operate the Isotop-ettes musical. See ya!
We were told that Sideshow Bob tries to demolish a rollercoaster that The Simpsons are riding. You then go through several attractions, one of which is a spoof of Pirates of the Caribbean. The ride is said to be much smoother than Back to the Future. He also confirmed that the walls would be coming down on Wednesday and technical rehearsals should start this week.
11:10pm Update: A few others have confirmed the wall will be down on Wednesday and that soft openings would begin. Also, we have received word from multiple sources that the film is CGI animation. There are numerous Disney references, including the Haunted Mansion ("Haunted Condos - Closed For Annual Ghostbusting") and as reported earlier, Pirates of the Caribbean.
11:15pm Update: We have heard there is a part in the queue line video of Doc Brown taking a loan out to "save the Institute". Apparently a DeLorean crashes into the loan officer and Doc says something about having to sell to "that clown". It then shows the Institute being turned into Krustyland.
11:45pm Update: During the pre-show Professor Frink explains that the ride's power system is highly radioactive and demonstrates by holding the hamster next to it and the hamster grows. Then, Grandpa and Maggie can't ride the ride so they have to stay behind. Grandpa falls asleep and Maggie wanders into the glowing green, radioactive room. Later in the ride an enlarged Maggie swallows us.
