Pandora – The World of Avatar was announced over the weekend at D23 Expo’s Parks & Resorts panel, which also saw a few, new tidbits of what to expect when the expansion opens in 2017.

The centerpiece attraction of the land will be called – AVATAR Flight of Passage. The E-ticket attraction allows guests to soar on a Banshee over a vast alien world of Pandora. The flying experience – which has been compared to a more advanced version of Soarin’ – will give guests a birds-eye view of the beauty and grandeur of the world of Pandora on “an aerial rite of passage”.

In addition, a slow-moving boat ride giving an overview of the spectacles of Pandora is also expected to open with the expansion; however a name or further details were not announced.

Pandora – The World of Avatar was announced in 2011 with construction starting last yea in 2014. In February, concept art of the overview of the expansion was released.

In collaboration with filmmaker James Cameron and Lightstorm Entertainment, Disney Parks is bringing to life the mythical world of Pandora, inspired by the film released in 2009. The land will feature “floating mountains”, as well as feature bioluminescent flora during the night.
